Friction Current: Magic Mountain Project

We are strangers of the same old mountain and the same old river.
Magic mountain of Zomia, a complex topographical relief terrain, a strategic resource or talisman of highland people in which it creates space in the form of distance used as an avoidance of control from the state power, that could not reach its remoteness nonetheless. Such complex geography of steep mountain ranges, afar plains in the mysterious valleys was formed since the Precambrian era which continued until the Tertiary era during the Himalayas began to rise and resulted in the birth of the Southeast Asia continent.

The cosmic folklore of Zomia highland groups explains that the mountain is a land that wrinkled and sewn with special thread, intertwined region and continent together. In the geologic time, while the structural geology of the land was formed, it released dynamic of pressure, temperature and enormous friction. The process began since the beginning of the geological evolution, from primitive to the present.

In order to understand the geological evolution, we can study the phenomenon in the closed space or experiment in the laboratory to understand such primitive witnesses. However, this evidence of the important origins in the Precambrian era has found inside the rocks from the earth basement called jadeite, a precious and highly economic value gemstone known as "Heavenly Rocks". On the other hand, there is contemporary evidence which occurred through chemical invention in the form of crystal with equally great value that signifies a current condition of social metabolism system. Both evidences are significant effect of the relationship between power and benefit.

Friction Current: Magic Mountain is an artistic research project by jiandyin that focuses on the phenomenon caused by the resistance force toward the relative motion or friction current across the border between the Nation States and the Stateless of Zomia, based on evidences or two types of witnesses, namely the jadeite caused by metamorphic rocks with chemical elements NaAlSi2O6 and fluids or secretions from samples that contain chemical elements as C10H15N to metaphor the representation of genealogy paradigms and significantly links regional historical, sociopolitical, economic and cultural situations.
